North America's Largest Tesla Dealership now Open in Montreal
For those who might not know, Tesla Motor is an all electric automotive company growing significantly and is getting known for its innovation and strong will to create the best car for this world’s future.
Lead by the famous Elon Musk, Tesla is now at an important turning point where their products face an increasing demand from the general public. With only the Model S on sale now, Musk has planned to build 100,000 vehicles by the end of 2015, doubling the pace of last year production.
Building as many cars is only the beginning of the job, now they have to deliver the product to the consumer. So they’ve not only increased their production number, Tesla is growing and creating more and more stores and service centers. Mainly in the US and Europe, they are now opening stores in Asia, North America and Australia, which brings me to the grand opening of the largest store and service center in North America based in Montreal, Canada.
The 45,000 square foot facility was inaugurated last month in a remarkable ceremony. Filled with interesting people, media and Tesla representatives, the night was a plain success. It was the perfect opportunity for Tesla to grow its French market as the senior vice president of global sales and service, Jerome Guillen, said: “We see significant potential, especially with our new products offerings, here in Quebec and Montreal [...] and we need to plan for the future”.
What Tesla is planning for the future of the Quebec industry is the implementation of a dozen DC Superchargers around the province. These superchargers are exclusive to Tesla and free to use for the customers. It can add up to 300 kilometers of range to the battery in only a 20-minute charge.

The Tesla people took the opportunity of the launch event to also talk about their new products and updates on the Model S. The previous versions of the Model S were available in a 45kWh battery, a 60kWh and an 85kWh version delivering 416 horsepower in its most expensive variant. A couple months ago, Tesla announced the end of their 45kWh entry level model and introduced a new performance vehicle: P85D. The “P” stands for performance and “D” for its additional battery (Dual Motor). The performance model now delivers a strong 691hp and has a 407km range of efficiency.
During the opening night, Tesla had a couple P85D models on display and also took onboard all willing attendants of the ceremony for a demonstration of this monster that can reach 100km/h in only 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h.
It is a surprise and may I say a success that adding a second motor and boosting up the power of the car has no negative effect on the vehicle efficiency. It is due to its optimal power delivery at any moment to the drive train. As Mr. Elon Musk explained in the P85D unveiling back in October, the model S is now 4-wheel drive and the power is divided to distribute the right amount of power to each wheel at any moment. The 691hp is split in two motors and delivers 221hp to the front and 470 to the rear.
The launch of the Dual Motor is not the only characteristic that shows the innovation of the car. For a couple months now each Model S rolling out the factory is equipped with the latest Tesla hardware that enables the autopilot functionality.
This technology is introducing four categories of safety features including long range radar, an image recognition camera that also serves as a backup for the first radar, 360º long range ultrasonic sonar and a real time traffic GPS navigation system.
The car does tasks such as emergency braking, lane keeping, automated cruise control and all of the aids are at sight of the driver, right on the dashboard. There is real time animated reproduction of what surrounds the vehicle, the speed he’s going, the power reserve and etc.
Coming from a car that when naked, looks like nothing more than a cardboard on wheels, it’s hard to believe that all this technology is inside that body and at our disposal. It is so well developed that only the future of Tesla could show us where it’ll be in a couple years.
